Oprah donates to brothers' Boston charity

"Mikey's Run" is a charity started by Harris Stolzenberg and his brother Michael, a 13 year old quadruple-amputee.  They started the charity with an ambitious goal in mind - to raise $1 million!

Their mother laughed when they mentioned their goal.  ‘If you can get $1,000, you should be happy.’, their mother said.

Michael has never been one to give up.  When he was only 8 years old, he lost his limbs to gangrene.  “He didn’t complain one time,” Harris said of his Michael. “He kind of just shrugged it off and said, ‘I’m going to make the most of this.’  That he did - within 4 months of getting his prosthetics, he was skiing.  Within a year, he was playing lacrosse and football for his high school.  So raising $1,000,000 for charity was no big deal :)

Oprah's donation really helped kick it off.  When she got wind of their charity, she called Michael on the phone and said "I want to donate $100,000 to your charity".  The brothers were ecstatic to receive a call AND donation from Oprah herself!

To this date, the brothers have received over $300,000 to their charity :)

And that's what's good,

"Have a pint, change the world" at Oregon Public House

Local brews and local charities are coming together at the Oregon Public House.  This is the nation's first non-profit pub.  Roughly $1 per pint sold goes to local charities.  In the first two weeks of business, the pub raised $2034.80 for charity!

Ryan Saari is the founder of this amazing pub and has rightfully created the motto "Have a pint, change the world".  He said that during hard times, people stop giving, but alcohol sales go up so…. why not solve both challenges?!

Wonderful charities and great beer?  I'll drink to that!

And that's what's good,

Disco Biscuits band raises money for charity

Only 20 minutes after tickets went on sale, the Disco Biscuits sold out tickets to their "Feed the Rocks" Earth Day benefit show on April 27th, 2013!  The show will raise money for Denver's Parks and Rec in addition to the Love, Hope, and Strength Foundation - a music cancer charity organization.

The band has a strong following and it's wonderful to see them supporting such great causes.  Charity is nothing new to the Disco Biscuits.  Last year, bassist and founder Marc Brownstein, led the efforts to raise roughly $10,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief funds.

And that's what's good,
