Anyone from Ithaca, NY who had checked their Facebook page around 11:30pm last night knew instantly who had won the NHL Stanley Cup, and who was the unsung hero.  Ithaca's hometown star Dustin Brown who is the captain of the LA Kings lifted Lord Stanley's Cup as all Ithacans praised him for putting our city on the map with his hard work.  Dustin scored the game's first two goals in route to leading the Kings to their first ever Stanley Cup. Facebook pages erupted, while twitter was also trending with Dustin Brown pictures, praises, and stories of growing up with him from his youth in Ithaca.  We at Good World News are proud to say we went to Pre-School through Highschool with Dustin, and look forward to him bringing the Stanley Cup to Ithaca with him this summer!!

Los Angeles Kings donate $50,000 to help solve crime

  • Published in Sports

The LA Kings are not only on the possible road to victory for the Stanley Cup, but they are also finding ways to help the community.  The Kings have donated $50,000 to help solve the killing of a young child.  While the loss of the child is incredibly saddening , it is nice to know that the LA Kings are close to their hearts and community and are willing to do as much as they can.

Here is the official announcement from the Kings:

The Los Angeles Kings today announced that they are contributing $50,000 to the reward fund to find the shooter who killed a 14-month old baby last night in Watts.

The announcement was made by Kings Governor Timothy J. Leiweke during the launch of the 2,000 Acts of Hope charitable initiative in Los Angeles earlier today.

“During such an exciting time such as this we can’t lose sight of the importance and responsibility we all share in keeping our community safe,” said Leiweke. “Our players and staff feel a tremendous obligation to do everything we can to help find who committed this terrible act of irresponsibility and hopefully this can contribute to the effort to acquire the information necessary to find who did this and make sure everyone knows this is unacceptable in our city.”
