Runners help carry woman across the finish line of Philadelphia marathon

During a recent marathon in Philadelphia a female runner collapsed 100 yards from the finish line.  Showing the highest sportsmanship, two unidentified runners interrupted their runs, carried the exhausted runner up to the finish line, and set her down so that she could take the final step across the line on her own.  She received medical attention and soon recovered.  A video of the good deed has been viewed by millions!  Lionel Messi, the Argentine soccer player considered to be the greatest of all time, has said; “There are more important things in life than winning or losing.”  A lesson we should all learn!

Man with brain cancer gets first place in marathon

  • Published in Sports

Not only did Iram Leon win the 2013 Gusher marathon, but he did it while pushing his 6 year old daughter, Kiana!

Iram is 32 years old and the doctors have said that he will live to be 40 if he's lucky.  Iram is not letting brain cancer slow him down at all.  He ran the 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 7 minutes.  He's not only a great inspiration to his daughter, but also to the entire world, proving that you should never give up on anything.

"People shouldn't wait to live until they're told they're dying," Leon said. "Go home and hug somebody and don't wait to be told you have a disease that's going to kill you. I ran my entire life and I was dumb enough to wait until I was told I was dying before I ran with my daughter."

He's making up for it though.  His daughter absolutely LOVES running with her father.  She yells out "WOOO!" on all of the turns with a big smile on her face.  Now it that's not inspiration, I don't know what is :)

And that's what's good,
Jon

World's oldest marathon runner finishes race at the age of 101

  • Published in Sports

What does a 101 year old do on their spare time?  Run marathons of course!…ok not many, but Fauja Singh does and he does it in style - with his flowing white beard. I know when I'm his age, I'll definitely sport the white beard!

Fauja decided to make the recent Hong Kong marathon's 10 K his last race, finishing in 1 hour and 32 minutes.  He was joined by many fellow Sikh and 72,000 other runners.

"I will remember this day. I will miss it," Fauja said after the race.

In 2011, at the age of 100, Fauja became the world's oldest man to run a full marathon during the Toronto marathon.  His record is not recognized by the Guinness Book of World records because he does not have a birth certificate.

Fauja Singh, you are truly an inspiration.  Never stop moving!  It doesn't matter how old you are, what you look like, or where you are from - you can do anything you put your mind to!

And that's what's good,
Jon
