A+ A A-

"Hallelujer!!" is exactly what Madea would say in this good news.  This isn't the movies though, and Tyler Perry isn't playing the Madea role.  This is real life and Tyler Perry just made someone very very very happy.

On September 30th, 2012, a $60,000 specialty equipped van was stolen from Alicia Day's house in Dekalb County, GA.  Alicia is a 24 year old with cerebral palsy who uses a wheel chair for mobility.  Even though she has a disability, she doesn't let that put her down - She told Alanta's Channel 2 Action News that she prides herself on trying her best to be independent and working as a part time greeter at Home Depot.

Minutes after the van was reported stolen on the news, Tyler Perry called the news station and said that he wanted to give Alicia Day a brand new van.

Alicia was in shock when she received the phone call with Tyler Perry. “My mouth just dropped to the floor when I heard his voice", she said.  Alicia's father was flabbergasted as well when he picked up the phone. He said, "Excuse me, who do you want to talk to? Who is this now?,' Day’s mother said.

Home Depot stepped it up as well.  They donated $5,000 to help Alicia with medical expenses and she gets to meet the president of Home Depot!

There aren’t many options for abandoned youth, when they are deemed too old to stay at the orphanage. In an environment where female orphans are just numbers that eventually fade to black in a cold system, and forced into prostitution to escape poverty, Fior Mendez has beaten the unlikeliest of odds.  The 22 year old Dominican beauty moved to New York just two weeks ago, thanks to a friend and member of The Orphaned Starfish Foundation, in hope for a better life. Well, she can consider her mission accomplished. Fior is now a bonafide supermodel, and stomped the runway Friday night for Nzinga Knight at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week.

The designer explains the casting call that changed Fior’s life:

“Just as my third casting session was about to be over, Fior Mendez walked in the room and did her walk and had this wonderful expression on her face, plus natural beauty. I was sold.”

Fior is quickly becoming a fashion darling, and has caught the attention of the nation. Now that she’s in the spotlight, she wants to shine it on the orphans who need the support she was afforded, so that they can have the opportunity to pursue their dreams:

“I want to be a light for those kids. I want to show them that if you are dedicated, you can do something, and that even if you’re sad, you always have hope.”

Incredible music, great vibes, smiling faces, headlined by Michael Franti, and free to the public! - Whaaat?  Yes, you heard it right!!  Hundreds of people came out to the Red Hat Amphitheater to see Michael Franti and Spearhead in the "Downtown Family Get Down" event on 10/20/2012!  Admission to the event was completely FREE!  This was a true family event - music, face painting, and dancing for all ages.  The Good World News team was there to get down on it! :)

Michael Franti is at the top of the charts when it comes to putting on a live show and getting the crowd involved.  Every show he manages to get the entire crowd jumping and dancing.  During "The Sound of Sunshine" (song below) the band kicked out beach balls into the crowd of dancing people!  During "All I want is you", Franti jumped out into the crowd to dance and bring even more smiles to the faces of Raleigh.

It had been a couple years since Micheal Franti had a show in Raleigh.  He took a minute to talk to the crowd about his last show in Raleigh on the streets in front of the Lincoln Theater.  Franti remembered how it poured rain into the crowd, but it didn't stop "the sun from shining through" as the crowd never stopped dancing.  Franti also remembers how he got his beautiful guitar (see in video below) painted by someone at that Raleigh show.

Thank you Michael Franti for bringing all of the good vibes to Raleigh, NC!  It was a blast! "Spread love from the microphone"!
