A+ A A-

A random act of kindness went on for hours at a Tim Hortons coffee and doughnut shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

It was a few days before Christmas and one happy customer decided to pay for the person behind them in the drive-through.  This became contagious!  The next person paid for the next, and so on and so on.  Then customers inside the shop started catching on and they started paying for the customer behind them.  This went on for three hours!!

“[The staff members]were calling out the numbers, ‘We’re at 162,’ and they made a really big deal of it,” the manager, Troy Thompson stated. “I think that’s what helped keep it going because nobody wanted to be the one who broke that streak.”

How awesome is that?!!  Way to pay it forward!

Peace & Love,

Jon

Some people look at $26,500 in student loan debt and call it LIFE... Brian McBride on the other hand called it a challenge.  He made it his goal to get rid of this debt in as short of time as possible.

Brian, like most people, racked up most of the debt from student loans.  He also had a $6,000 car loan at 8% interest rate. Ouch!

How did he do it with his $13/hour salary?! Well, sometimes it takes extreme changes to make a difference in an extreme situation.  He skipped meals, cut back expenses - cancelled cable TV and used streaming video services instead.  He jumped on food stamps for a while.

Then he landed a job as an associate producer at CNN and doubled his salary!  This definitely helped, but Brian still had a mountain to scale.

"So I crunched the numbers and made a plan. I would spend no more than a quarter of my monthly income on essentials -- rent, utilities, phone bills and groceries -- and the rest would be stowed away in savings." Brian stated.

Brian scavenged the grocery store for deals and did actually eat some meals that were "expired" - eek :)  But he made it and now he is debt free!!

Congrats Brian McBride!  You are truly an inspiration!

Peace & Love,

Jon

A "Cash Mob" is a surprise party for a business.  This is where loving customers assemble at the business same time and surprise the business with smiles and cash.  This is exactly what customers of the Black Rock Coffee Bar in Portland, OR did for their favorite chill-out spot.

The "cash mob" gave the Black Rock Coffee Bar a much needed uplift.  The local business recently was feeling the pain after two armed robberies.    Thanks to happy customers, the coffee spot is back on their feet.

Jenifer DeWolfe, a "regular" at the Black Rock Coffee Bar said she organized the surprise to give them a financial and moral boost.

Daniel Brand, one of the owners of the establishment said they were ecstatic about the support from their customers.  "We try to connect with the local communities, so it's awesome to see people coming out like this."

Peace & Love,
Jon
